National Salmonella and Escherichia Centre

National Salmonella and Escherichia Centre (NSEC) is the National Reference Centre for serotyping of Salmonella and Escherichia coli. It was established at Central Research Institute, Kasauli in the year 1958 in collaboration with W.H.O in addition to assistance from Central Public Health Laboratory, Collindale (U.K) and Institut Pasteur, Paris. The activities of the center include:

  1. Serotyping of Salmonella and Escherichia coli
  2. Raising of ‘anti-O’ Escherichia coli antisera
  3. Lyophilization, maintenance and supply of bacterial cultures
  4. Training in techniques used in serotyping of Salmonella and Escherichia coli

Procedure for sending samples for serotyping:

Isolates to be submitted for serotyping at NSEC should be sent strictly in accordance with the instructions given in the instruction sheet. In addition, duly filled Laboratory Request Performa (LRP) should be sent along with the samples. The above mentioned documents can be downloaded from the links below:

Procedure for requisition for lyophilized bacterial cultures:

The requisition for bacterial cultures should be sent to The Director, Central Research Institute, Kasauli (H.P) – 173204.
